Michael
Sledge began his writing career in earnest in his late thirties and has
written a number of texts for professionals in the investment-planning
field. In addition, he has won regional fiction writing contests for short
stories and novels, and has written news articles and opinion pieces for
The Shreveport Times (Louisiana), The Bossier Tribune
(Louisiana), and the Dallas Morning News.
Sledge
has always been interested in social issues connected with military activities.
To research Soldier Dead, he traveled
extensively around the world, including a stint as an embedded journalist
with the U.S. Army’s Mortuary Affairs Company in Baghdad, Iraq.
Michael
Sledge brings an unusual blend of talents to his writing, including strong
description and organization, a keen eye for detail and quick grasp of
the big picture that others may have missed, and a narrative voice that
combines the best of technical writing and social commentary. He received
a B.S. in psychology from Louisiana State University in 1972 and passed
the CPA exam in 1975. He became securities-licensed in 1988 and worked
as an accountant until 2003, when he became a full-time writer.
Currently,
Sledge is pursuing publication for fiction work while continuing to expand
and research still largely unexplored aspects of Soldier
Dead. When not writing, Sledge rides and races mountain bikes
and follows two-lane roads wherever his Road King leads him.
